This is my biweekly which should be weekly news roundup!
English Riots
Also known as the London/ Manchester/ Bristol/ Birmingham riots, the news has been awash with news stories of the terrible war zones of England today. Notice I say England as I haven’t heard of many riots in Wales or Scotland yet! Although there was one in Cardiff.
Young persons of dubious morals have been stalking English cities instilling fear into the working, middle and upper classes. Why would this kick-off now, I hear you whisper as you cower under your beds, with a blanket over your heads, surely this is the end of the world? No it is not, it is a result of a lot of factors but the end of the world isn’t part of it.
So what happened? Apparently (I wasn’t there), a man was shot in a minicab by armed police officers. My first thought was, oh no they’ve shot a poor innocent again, I was thinking of the poor Brazillan guy a few years ago, but this poor soul had a gun, so my sympathies withered. There were no shots fired but according to the BBC, a gun was found near the scene of his death.
In this age of political correctness, the police handled it wrong, I don’t know how how but they did. This sparked off a peaceful rally which then turned into an ugly riot. This then spread through London and in the following nights across England. The rest seems to be copy cat riots. More of a case of, ooh, a TV, lets go break in and get it, they’re doin’ it in London so it must be fashionable. Or, we need respect innit, if we steal you ‘ave to respect us, innit.
Of course it could also be government cuts to the police force, the removal of a task unit to look at the disadvantaged and the disappearance of youth clubs to lack of money. What else we gonna do? – innit.
So the riots are a mix of government cutbacks, the disadvantaged seeing an opportunity, copy cats and respect innit..
